I really liked what she said about all the depressing, sickening things we see constantly on social media that are supposedly less harmful to our psyches than seeing a human nipple. Why is nudity considered so off-limits when there are so few limits on potentially triggering content such as videos depicting police brutality? Not too long ago, a friend and I were casually watching the news at a bar when sudden video of Philando Castile’s last moments played out on screen. A video of a man bleeding out, slack-jawed and leaning against his girlfriend as the fractic cop who shot him continued screaming while a child sat in the backseat of the car - this was deemed appropriate material for a news segment segue. I watched my friends face change from happy-neutral to panic-grief in a matter of seconds. She wasn’t expecting to have to see that image, which is very triggering and painful for her to watch. She couldn’t help the tears and shock that overcame her. Sorry for the rambling statement, but this part of the interview reminded me how out of whack our ”moral compasses” have to be for nudity to be so demonized when it could never incite the kind of traumatic reaction that happened by airing an uncensored video of a man being murdered because the cop who shot him was a jumpy racist. I don’t know what the solution is here, but its definitely not censoring miraculous breasts!
